Travail, ménages, pauvreté et capital humain

Nos recherches portent sur la modélisation et l’analyse empirique de la nature et du fonctionnement des ménages dans les pays en développement, comme cadre pour comprendre la prise de décision des ménages en matière d’investissements en capital humain, de fécondité et de formation des ménages, ainsi que leurs implications pour la mobilité intergénérationnelle et les conflits intra-ménages.

Pour éclairer les liens entre les décisions des ménages et la mobilité économique et sociale à long terme, notre groupe se concentre également sur l’identification des frictions culturelles et comportementales sur le marché du travail, analyse les rôles des compétences cognitives et non cognitives et des politiques de protection sociale sur les choix professionnels et les résultats sur le marché du travail, et examine l’impact de chocs externes, tels que la libéralisation du commerce, sur les marchés du travail formels et informels.

Nos recherches évaluent également directement les impacts à court et long terme de politiques sociales spécifiques, telles que l’éducation, la santé, les interventions en faveur de la petite enfance, les pensions et les transferts d’argent. En utilisant des modèles expérimentaux et quasi-expérimentaux, et une combinaison de données d’enquête et administratives originales, les impacts sur le capital humain, le marché du travail et le bien-être à long terme sont étudiés, mettant en lumière le potentiel de ce type d’interventions pour briser (ou au contraire renforcer) la transmission intergénérationnelle de la pauvreté et des inégalités.
